Here is are some snapshots of the evenings:

Downtown Canandaigua merchants plan for a festive holiday season filled with new events, decorations, and surprises.

In downtown Canandaigua, merchants are busy preparing for a fun filled holiday season.  New lights and banners will adorn Main Street, and merchant’s windows and doors will be decorated.  Some new events along with some recurring ones have filled up their calendars, making November and December a joyous experience for locals and tourists alike.

“It’s been an exciting ride planning this and watching it materialize,” says Lori Malolepszy, co-chair of the marketing committee for the Downtown Canandaigua Merchant Association and owner of Expressions in Needleart.  “Our committee has worked relentlessly to come up with new ideas mixed with great traditions to make this season special.”

Some of the new ideas will be giving away free turkeys during their Holiday Open House event, which is Friday November 19th to Sunday November 21st.  On Friday between the hours of 4-8, sixteen downtown merchants will be handing out turkeys (in the form of gift cards), courtesy of Wegmans.  There is no purchase necessary, and consumers must be physically in the stores to win.  Along with the free turkeys, consumers can enter to win a Thanksgiving Dinner as well.  On Saturday downtown will be hosting their annual holiday drink contest, where consumers can taste merchant’s drinks and vote on their favorite.  There will also be elfs handing out downtown dollars, horse drawn wagon rides for the entire family, and numerous merchant specials.

The Holiday Open House event also kicks off their annual Doors of Canandaigua promotion.  Merchants decorate a door, either their front or another in their window, and the public can vote on their favorite.  Consumers can also enter the $1000 holiday shopping spree.

A new tradition merchants are excited about is their Black Friday Sale, which is Friday, November 26th.  A list of merchants will open early the day after Thanksgiving at 6am to offer amazing deals for early birds.  They are promising that the deals are going to be worth it, plus it will be a more civilized alternative to mall shopping.  Shoppers are encouraged to stick around for Santa’s arrival at noon.

December 11th marks a new event, aptly called The BIG Event.  This involves a day-filled event including a pancake eating contest, wine tasting, demonstrations, live alpacas, and community caroling.  More details to follow.

To see a list of these events and promotions, and for more info visit http://downtowncanandaigua.com

November is a busy month–filled with holiday happenings, gatherings, and merchant’s special events.   Downtown Canandaigua will be filled holiday cheer, new lights and banners are set for installation in the middle of the month,  a special ornament for the holidays will be available at the end of the week, and many contests, including our Holiday Drink Contest, Doors of Canandaigua, and our $1000 Shopping Spree is back!

Christkindl Market at the Granger and Taste of the Finger Lakes promises to be a lot of fun, and for the Holiday Open House, we are giving away turkeys!  Not live turkeys, though, just gift cards for turkeys.

Here are some of the events happening in Canandaigua by Merchants:
