Local merchants are excited to join Canandaigua Foursquare Day, which is Monday, April 16th, 2012. Locals and tourists are encouraged to visit local shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants that day and check in with their Foursquare accounts.

“We hope to attract more savvy social media users to explore our area merchants,” Don Stevens, marketing chair for Canandaigua Downtown Merchant Association says. “Many merchants already have a huge following with Foursquare.”

During the day specials and offers come alive including demonstrations, food tastings, and more, including free soap samples at Wick-edly Sent Soap and Candle Company, drink specials at Pickering Pub, a special oil and vinegar combo at F. Olivers, and storewide chocolate specials at Sweet Expressions. Many more merchants will post their own special offers during the day on Foursquare.

A Foursquare Day party will end the day long celebration at Simply Crepes between 5-6 pm, where there will be a crepe demonstration, hors d’oeuvres, and tastings from Bellwether Hard Cider. Foursquare users can also earn a coveted Swarm Badge with a drawing for a prize during the party. Foursquare users are encouraged to unlock badges earned by checking into local businesses; badges range from Newbie, Local, Adventurer, Explorer, and more.

About Foursquare Day:
Foursquare Day is held every year on April 16th. A grass roots event started by Tampa Bay fans of foursquare in 2010, it quickly spread to communities all over the world. Foursquare Day is celebrated differently in each community.

Foursquare is a location-based social networking website for mobile devices, such as smartphones. Users “check in” at venues such as local shops, restaurants, and art galleries using a mobile website, text messaging or other devices by selecting from a list of venues the application locates nearby.

Happy New Year everyone!

This past year has been a great one.  The holiday season has been filled with a  positive energy about downtown and Canandaigua merchants.  We welcome four new businesses to Main Street, and celebrated many anniversaries of business going strong!  This year we hope you continue to support our local merchants by shopping, dining, and exploring.   Here are some upcoming events, starting with Canandaigua Wine Walk:

The Canandaigua Downtown Merchant Association request shoppers to like their Facebook page. They are so sure that people will, they are now offering fan rewards to Facebook users who follow their feeds.

“Facebook is definitely where people hang,” Don Stevens says, marketing chair for the association. “Residents and tourists who love Canandaigua can now keep tabs on their favorite merchants, and get rewarded as well.”

The Facebook fan page now offers rewards such as drawings, giveaways, special offers, and invitations. Canandaigua merchants can now become “featured merchants,” and have their own designated app on the association’s Facebook page.

All users have to do is “Like” the page and take advantage of the rewards being offered. Rewards are unexpected, ranging from a special invitation to a party, a new product preview, discounted gift certificates, oran exciting giveaway. The first giveaway is an overnight stay at the luxurious Chalet of Canandaigua Bed and Breakfast. There is also a merchant photo showcase, which highlights a slideshow of a featured merchant’s business, and there is more to come. Fans are expected to take advantage of rewards and share them with theirfriends and family as well.

The association already uses Facebook actively to announce merchant news, events, happenings, and create polls and surveys. Users are familiar and depend on the newsfeeds for up to date information, and the fans are growing. Merchants will rotate to become featured and the rewards will change, enticing users to stay connected with Facebook.
